I specialize in helping plus-size folks get out of pain and get back into life.
Let’s get you some help with hip pain.
First and most important…when you are feeling pain on the outside of your hips, especially when you walk, it usually means your low back is involved. This is the most common “hip” pain that I see in my larger clients. I actually get this sometimes too, my legs feel really heavy when it’s happening.
The best fix for this is to stop at the first sign of the tightening, sit down and take a rest. While resting lean forward and put your forearms on your thighs. This position which we call “the thinker” will give your low back a gentle stretch. If you sit down soon enough a quick rest should really help. If you keep walking even though you’re hurting it will take a bit longer to resolve. The sooner you stop and rest the better.
But what if there’s no place to sit? Try this stretch:

The other fix for that outer hip pain when you’re walking is to put a wiggle in your walk…maybe channel Marilyn Monroe. After all…Motion is Lotion!
